Unicorn Burgers: A New Kind of Food Truck

A new kind of food truck is coming to Somerset, KY.

Unicorn Burgers is uniquely set apart from other food trucks in the Lake Cumberland region. And no – it’s not just because of our delicious burgers. Growing out of the Supported Employment program at Applied Behavioral Advancements, LLC, Unicorn Burgers is not just a food truck, but a job training program for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Through vocational education, Unicorn Burgers aims to build community and help individuals of all abilities gain confidence and independence.

Why is vocational experience important?

Along with job readiness skills, we believe that vocational experience builds confidence and independence. We place special importance on finding the right role for each individual. Some of us thrive flipping burgers, others like taking orders, and some design our t-shirts. Whether someone plans to enter the workforce or not, the Unicorn Burgers program empowers every individual to embrace the unique gifts they bring to the table.

We believe that jobs are an essential part of the way individuals relate to their community. Our mission at Unicorn Burgers is to help those in our community with different abilities, who face unique challenges, having been relegated and marginalized as ‘less than’, to explore potential vocational interests, gain job-development and job-readiness skills, and engage with their community in the way they are most comfortable: as themselves.

Our symbol is the unicorn.

How do we do it?

Unicorn Burgers partners with local programs and agencies who provide IDD services. We start in the classroom, teaching some basic job skills. Then, we move our teams on to the truck for hands-on experience in a work environment. Once everybody has had time to practice, we set up shop and sell delicious burgers on the spot! Our most recent partnership with Tri-Generations of Somerset was a week and a half long training that culminated in over 75 happy customers!

Our core team at Unicorn Burgers is dedicated to serving the IDD community through meaningful development and training opportunities. You may also see the team working the truck at events, with and without our clients. We do this to help meet our funding goals and continue doing the good work of helping EVERYONE be their fullest, most magical self.

The Unicorn Burger – $10
Your standard American ‘fist-sized’ burger w/ bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and banana peppers, served on a warm, buttery bun. Served with or without cheese.

The Pegacorn Burger – $10

Everything you love about the Unicorn Burger…but replace the bun with a delicious PINK SPRINKLE DONUT. (Not reccommended for the health concious among us).

Make it a basket for $13!

Either burger plus Loaded Tots -or- Mac n Cheese

Either way there’s nacho cheese, sour cream, and bacon. Because yum.
